Telefrique Harrisa
About Telefrique Harrisa
The Téléférique leaves a few kilometers north of the old center of Jounieh and takes you just below the Christian shrine at Harissa. Each car seats four (surprisingly dogs are allowed) and offers both intimate views of the balconies that crowd the Jounieh shore as well as beautiful panoramic views as you ascend the green slopes towards Harissa.
The Harissa shrine was built in France and transported to Lebanon in the 19th century.
To reach this bronze, white painted 13-ton statue of the Virgin Lady from the end of the Téléférique, you can either take the free funicular railway, or climb a few stairs. From everywhere up the mountain the panoramic view on Beirut and the sea is stunning. If you are scared of heights and therefore prefer skipping the cable car, Harissa is also reachable by car.
A short but steep hike along the “Sky Trail” (Darb as-Sama), which begins in Ghadir, also brings you to Harissa. It is punctuated with Christian monuments and spectacular views.
